此外,有明显标记的医院船在战斗中被击沉,在瓜达尔卡纳尔岛上,受伤的日本士兵像纸一样被压扁在蒸汽滚筒下;

二十四名被告的行为只是为了帮助人民;

To Commander MacArthur:

As a Japanese, I feel that it is extremely unfair that the term war crimes is being used at the Tokyo tribunal that is now taking place.

Since it was a world war, it would be most fair to judge right as right and wrong as wrong through a world war trial.

During the trial, whenever testimony refers to illegal acts of American forces, the judges always avoid the subject and seal the testimony.
 Can this be called a fair trial?
 War is the act of fighting over lives, and many kinds of extreme, bloodthirsty actions occur.
 But today, after surrender, I don't think one should be judging the killing that took place in wartime.

We Japanese, for our part, when undefended cities like Kofu were incinerated, five hundred innocent lives were lost.
 Also, clearly marked hospital ships were sunk during battle, and on Guadalcanal Island wounded Japanese soldiers were flattened like paper under a steam roller;
 these are memories that cannot be erased from the mind of a parent like myself who sent his child to war.
 I am impressed that a race of meat eaters is sweet toward women but then takes pleasure in committing such cruel deeds.

There is a lot of fuss being made at the Tokyo tribunal right now over whether the twenty-four defendants are guilty or innocent.
 However, as the American lawyer has stated, when the Japanese tried to ease their population growth by emigrating to America with its vast territory, the American government banned immigration.
 When we began, out of necessity, to colonize Manchuria, the United States and the Soviet Union interfered and threatened us with economic boycott.
 When the tightening of the ABCD encirclements coerced Japan, the Japanese, like a cornered mouse biting a cat, began the war as a legitimate act of defense or self-defense.
 This is what most of the Japanese people believe.
 The twenty-four defendants only acted in order to help the people;
 they only took unavoidable measures for the country's sake.
 From the American standpoint, it may have been a burdensome war, but its cause originated in the American exclusion of Japanese immigrants, it is your own fault, so I think they should be found not guilty.
 You should lecture them that resorting to arms was an overreaction and set them free, thus displaying the magnanimity of a civilized country.
 Punishing the twentyfour defendants is the same as punishing all of the Japanese people.

Given the current state of the Tokyo trials, one would have to delete the term "measures for self defense" from the language, because it has lost its meaning.
 After these trials, where will the people of the world turn to hold trials for the crimes of burning a defenseless city, or incinerating civilians, or murder with an atomic bomb?
 Unless America provides appropriate acknowledgment that what is wrong is wrong, even a defeated people cannot accept American methods as fair.

American dignity would also be damaged if the Soviet Union's violation of its treaties with Japan is left unaddressed.
 To only focus on Japanese treaty violations cannot be considered judging the truth, can it?

These are the thoughts of a victim of the bombing whose house was burned.
 Please place your hand on your heart and think about it.
 I know these thoughts are not illogical.
 I have dared to submit this letter in the hope that Your Excellency will give it fair consideration.
