阁下和工作人员上个月对镰仓八幡宫的访问令我和神社全体成员深感荣幸和高兴。

从那时起，我就一直热切地希望能有机会为阁下提供一些娱乐活动，让您在日常繁重的工作之余也能放松一下。

10 月 28 日下午 1 时至 3 时，我们将举行本神社一年一度的文墨祭(注 1)。

敬请麦克阿瑟阁下、夫人和您的儿子届时光临。

我们特别准备了日本传统艺术节目（注 2），如正式的茶道、插花和古典舞蹈，希望这些节目能引起您的兴趣。

在目前的情况下，我担心向阁下发出正式邀请会显得冒昧，因此，我冒昧地简化了形式，用这封信代替了邀请卡。

出于上述类似目的，我请求阁下司令部参谋人员和第八军团参谋人员出席此次会议。

Your Excellency,

The visit of Your Excellency and the staff to the Kamakura Hachimangu Shrine last month was a source of great honor and pleasure to me and all the members of this shrine.

 It has since been my fervent desire to have an opportunity of furnishing Your Excellency with some form of entertainment as diversion in your daily life of arduous responsibilities.

On the 28th of October, from one to three o'clock in afternoon, we are going to hold the annual Bunbokusai Festival of this shrine (Note 1).

 We would like to request the honor of the presence of Your Excellency, Mrs.

 MacArthur and your son on this occasion.

 We have prepared a special program of Japanese traditional arts (Note 2), such as formal tea ceremonies, flower arrangements and classical dancing, hoping that the program would be of some interest to you.

I was afraid that it would be presumptuous of myself to send a formal invitation to Your Excellency under the present circumstances and have, therefore, taken the liberty of abbreviating formality and substituting this letter for an invitation card.

I have, for similar purposes as stated above, asked the presence on this occasion of the members of the staff of Your Excellency's Headquarter, Commanding General and the staff of the Eighth Army Corps.
