The simple answer is that the Barbary and Ottoman slavers practised the routine castration of their slaves.
Slaves were meant to be units of work output. When they died, you got more fresh ones.
By putting up with the inconvenience (albeit minor) of obtaining fresh slaves, then castrating them, you eliminated the problems of catering for their offspring.
