https://www.legal-tools.org/doc/ccf497/pdf/p.2

2 You can argue Taiwan(ROC) is a country based on the facts it has a sovereign government, use their own currency, acknowledged by a few countries in the world… But, it is not ANOTHER country. Regardless which China other countries support, there's only ONE China. Germany was reunited, was that imperialism? Both Koreas want unification, is that imperialism? Then how come for China, reunification is imperialism?

I have a very low opinion of them. I just met one (using a Western name) who shrieked expletives at me when I asked what her Chinese name was. “I am NOT Chinese,” she yelled. I didn't even call her Chinese — I simply asked her for her name in her native language. She hates China so much that even after she said she speaks Chinese, she can't stand to be asked what her Chinese name is.
So then I told her that's like saying I'm not Middle Eastern. And just like that, she told me to fuck off.

Why do you westerner think that Catalana should be a part of Spain even though majority of Catalana wants to be independent?
When most Crimea people voted to be part of Russia, you say no.
when it comes to Taiwan, you said yes.
this is your double standard democracy.
You just want a weak China.

So… in your world 38.9% is “the vast majority”?
Looks like American-tier math, the same kind of math that allowed multiple US Presidents to be elected with the minority of the popular vote (and yes, I’m aware of how the Electoral College works).
Though, admittedly, I was surprised that 36% of the islanders claim they “absolutely” would defend their island. It’s far more than I expected. But then again, only about 5% of any modern population even has the physical capacity to do anything productive in a modern war, so… it’s a moot point.
Furthermore, I seriously d
Is it so difficult for you to tell the difference between China, PRC and ROC?
Taiwan is not under PRC(people’s republic of china) government’s rule, but under ROC(republic of china) government’s rule.
However Taiwan is claimed by both PRC and ROC government.
Also, Taiwan is de facto and de jure part of China’s territory.
Also, Taiwanese is a fraction of Chinese who share the same language and culture.
Now you get your mind clear?
As a Taiwanese, my answer may not be popular. I hope Taiwan will be united with China under favorable condition and once the political environment is right. For now, I hope there will be a peaceful status quo.
Taiwan and China are separated by the past conflict between the communists and the capitalists/democracies, like the East/West Germany and North/South Korea. I see the Germans and Koreans are all putting the politics aside and hope for a reunification of the people when the political condition will allow it. So I ask, why can’t the Chinese people be the same?
Now I understand why many Taiw
Remind me what is the official name of the Taiwanese government? By any chance “Republic of China"?
Also if you check the current territorial claim of “Taiwan government”, it include island in south China Sea it control as well as most of the Mainland China.
Additionally if you check the official line of the “Taiwanese government”, I have not seen any claim as independent republic of Taiwan but they are the real legitimate government of whole China!
By the way, where do you got the idea of majority want independent from? The poll so far show majority would like status quo. Neither immediate unifi
It's been said China had never claimed it againsts TaiWan's independence, however, Taiwanese are not allowed to be independent on this island, a China's territory, they can do that wherever they want but not on Taiwan island.
The answer is that Taiwan is geographically important to China. If China allows Taiwan to become independent, then China will not have any excuses to attack Taiwan if Taiwan decides to develop nuclear weapons. Imagine Taiwan has like 100 nuclear missiles ready to launch at the major Chinese cities near the coastline. Chinese people will not be very happy about it. US, Japan, and Korea are not going to stop Taiwan from developing nuclear weapons, because they like to see China get threatened by other countries’ nuclear missiles.
In addition to developing nuclear weapons, independence can also al
This seems a question generated by online troll. Shame on Quora, and on whoever plays this game!
There are similar questions that have gotten more than a hundred answers, including this example: Why do so many people from Taiwan dislike being called Chinese?
I would like to address one part of the long question raised here, i.e., that “the vast majority of Taiwanese want to be independent”. This is similar to claiming that the Taiwanese disliking being called Chinese. Wonder how, if true, this has happened?

China doesn’t want to “rule” Taiwan.
Take Hongkong For example,it returned to China In 1997. But it is still ruled bt the Hongkongers. The central government doesn’t take a penny from Hongkong. The westerners didn’t believe In the “one country , two systems” principle when it was first proposed by the Chinese government. But for so many years, it has worked well in Hongkong.
For Taiwan, the late Chinese Leader Deng Xiaoping even promised that Taiwan could keep their own army. Frankly speaking, today the coastal cities in China are better developed than Taiwan. There is nothing In Taiwan th
