As a Taiwanese, my answer may not be popular. I hope Taiwan will be united with China under favorable condition and once the political environment is right. For now, I hope there will be a peaceful status quo.

It's been said China had never claimed it againsts TaiWan's independence, however, Taiwanese are not allowed to be independent on this island, a China's territory, they can do that wherever they want but not on Taiwan island.

If China allows Taiwan to become independent, then China will not have any excuses to attack Taiwan if Taiwan decides to develop nuclear weapons.
