Is it true that the British loathed the American soldiers stationed there during WW2?

According to my late Mother who played in a jazz band during the war the real problem was race. When a group was in a club or pub they would try and either stop black guys going in or try to eject them. They would demand to be served first and get extremely upset if a British girl either refused to dance with them or worse did so then said yes to a black guy. Many commonwealth troops were also in the UK and expected to be treated as equals and in most cases were, so we treated Black Americans the same way. This caused a huge upset and some US Generals actually demanded segregation which much to their credit the Government refused.

Among my mothers friends it became common practice to find a Black guy and deliberately walk past white US soldiers arm in arm to taunt them!

To give you a comparison it's now very hard to identify the race of RAF officers because there was no were on official paperwork to record it!
