Just as in 1991 when the communist superpower Soviet Union was on the verge of collapse, the state agencies were too busy to bring the astronaut Sergei Krikalev back to Earth. Krikalev was forced to roam in space for 311 days, and by the time he returned to Earth, it was as if the Soviet Union had ceased to exist, and his salary had been devalued to less than half the income of a bus driver.
