What's your take on "Antony Blinken" vs "Mike Pompeo" as the U.S. Secretary of State?

Mike Pompeo was kind of a joke as the SOS. He was not really involved with the major areas of interest. Jared Kushner was or, when it came to Russia, the Orange Man took point and frequently left Mike at home.

Pompeo was an Army Officer turned politician cum ideologue. There is absolutely zero evidence he achieved a single thing as the nations top diplomat. He mostly just liked the attention.

Blinken is a career diplomat.

The jury is still out on his efficacy at this job but, he’s got the actual hardest challenge on his hands that any SOS has had in decades. His low key attitude is probably an asset now.

Bear in mind, that in a pathetic attempt at maintaining his relevance and public profile, Pompeo went on TV and sucked up to Vladimir Putin three weeks ago. Putin is firing prohibited cluster munitions into civilian centers this week.

So Pompeo is functionally an appeaser. Which is generally not a good look for a U.S. Secretary of State. It’s also exactly what has gotten us where we are, limp wristed appeasement of Putin and his system.

Sec Clinton did not do that. Though I think John Kerry was less stern.

In recent history, the women have had bigger gonads in this job than the men, which is actually an interesting dynamic. Especially with regards to Putin’s Russia.

Part of Putin’s overt and covert backing of Trump was predicated on his working knowledge of Clinton, who was kind of a bitch in his estimation but importantly, she was intractable on certain points of his interest.

Blinken seems industrious in this crisis but he is not hogging the spotlight. Something several of his recent predecessors were quite guilty of. Especially Pompeo and Clinton. Clinton because her team was good at putting her in the spotlight and Pompeo because he did everything he could to get in front of a camera.

So based on this fact alone, I think Blinken has been solid so far.
