Habib -
300 Years in a Convent, 50 Years in Hollywood.
I come from the Philippines which was once colonized by Spain and the United States. This is significant because both countries colonized the country for a good amount of time and both had great influence the country’s history.
Spain
As my opening line says, we spent 300 years in a convent or rather, we were colonized by Spain for 300+ years which introduced Catholicism to the country, which continues to be the majority religion in the Philippines, at 81% of the population.
During Spanish rule, many buildings were built which were heavily influenced b
We feel nothing.
Believe or not but Vietnamese feels nothing.
We have had a lot of wars in 4,000 years, against dozen dynasties of China, then Mongolia (3 times), Siam, Japan, France, the US, the US allies (Thailand, Australia, South Korea, Singapore), Khmer Rouge, and China again. All of invaders/rulers finally had to leave out and let Vietnamese alone!
Then we all forgave, to overcome any difficulty to keep living. Then we were against to fight them when needed, and then overcome and then keep living well. And life just kept going on.
If we felt hatred toward them, we would not still exist; we w
The United States is in a rare position of eclipsing its former colonizers geopolitically and economically. That being said, Americans tend to hold our former colonizers in very-high regard.
We are particularly Anglophilic; across the political spectrum we see Britain as our closest geopolitical ally, even over neighboring Canada.
Outside of North America, Americans visit the UK more than any other country. France and Spain aren’t far behind
America, the UK, and France have shared broadly similar geopolitical and strategic goals for the past century. Most of the significant wars over the past 100

I’m Brazilian. I think most here have a good feeling about the Portuguese. It helps that you are much more likely to find Portuguese descendants in Brazil than Indigenous.
Brazilian relation with its rulers is quite unique. The portuguese court actually lived in Brazil for 13 years, for a time where Rio de Janeiro was actually the capital of the Portuguese empire, as they were fleeing the French invasion.
This led to some developments in the Brazilian colony, Which eventually led to Brazilian independence.
When Portugal revolted due to The absence of the imperial family, they returned in 1821. Th
Brazil has a unique situation when compared to other former colonies.
First of all, there wasn’t a Brazil before Portugal. India, for instance, already had several millenia of history before being conquered by the British, and an identity (identities are, by essence, a mythological concept, so it’s pointless to discuss how “idealized” an identity is) to get back to, and to oppose to their colonial history. Brazil has none of that. Before 1500, the territory that’s now Brazil was home to a scattered mix of small to medium-sized tribal societies, with no globally shared identity. The current Braz

Today we are a country of 135 crores sprinting towards 150 by 2030,spread over a wide geographical area .naturally in such a huge country there is bound to be different opinions and feelings towards the people who once ruled us.
we certainly respect and are thankful to them for teaching us about democracy and creating a national consciousness.
however, one feature I’ve noticed is that the majority of Indians show this Respect by tryIng to IMITATE THE WHITE MAN.the reason being,we equate actions of white man with class.even though most of the time our imita
Many of us still call Spain our “Madre Patria”. In 2019 for the first time in our 500 years of history, a Spanish King visited Cuba officially. Felipe VI’s visit was historical since he’s the only king to ever had done so. Here is what he said:
Like every Spaniard who arrives in Cuba - and I also believe that every Cuban who arrives in Spain -, since we set foot on land, a very strong feeling of brotherhood and familiarity invades us. An emotion that is the result of so much shared history, the crossing and the cultural fusion and the sympathy and friendship that exist between our two peoples.

As a Pakistani-Canadian, I think that I should answer for both nations. Both nations were once colonies of the British Empire.
Pakistan
Pakistan is a modern nation that gained independence in 1947. Prior to that, it was part of British India. This was the greatest colony of the British Empire.
I would say that most Pakistani people probably have neutral to positive views of the UK. While there are definitely some who dislike it, these people would be in a minority. For the most part, the UK is viewed quite favorably.
This is not to say that people like what was done by the British Empire in the In
Malaysian here.
We were once the British's subjects.
Hrmm how do we feel?Honestly I at least don't know the general Malaysian opinion but I will at least offer an objective guess.
This is just my personal experience but the British is “rarely” at least mentioned in our lives.I can see them as:
Mentioned in the talks of people like the general lines like:
“The British invaders carved out our states”
Or
“The British helped cleared out the communists during the emergency”
Mentioned in our history books as “conquerors".
Their country being mentioned from time to time but not frequently on local malaysian n
I’m from Colombia, and the point of view the average person has on Spain is quite complex. From an historical point of view, there even isn’t an agreement between the two Nations about the history of colonialism in Colombian. In South America the education the population receives differs from the European point of view, as I’ve been able to see, and I think none of those interpretations are really objective.
How were African countries colonized?
Which country did South Africa colonize?
Colonialism is never good, however, which country was the best colonizer in term of their treatment toward the colonized population?
Is there any country that has never been colonized, and is there any country that has never colonized others?
Which countries in Africa were never colonized?
What was the point of colonization? Why would one country want to colonize another?
Which countries aren't colonized?
How do those who live in a country which was once colonized feel about their colonizers?
What are the countries that were never colonized (in the broadest sense of the term)?
